A Celebration of Creativity
What a wonderful day we shared at our Heritage Project Art Festival! It was a joy to see St Swithun’s come to life as artwork adorned one side of the church, bringing colour and character to our historic building. With pieces from 13 talented artists displayed alongside artwork created by children from our own church family, the exhibition was a beautiful celebration of the creativity within our community.
A huge thank you to all 13 artists who generously shared their work with us. We’re also so grateful to Pauline Rich Silverwood, Judy Cossey and Ed Briggs, who helped bring the exhibition together. It was something new for us as a church, and it was wonderful to see the space transformed in such a special way.
We were delighted to welcome Faithworks, who provided beautiful woodwork for the exhibition from their carpentry workshops, alongside Faith with Finesse and Keith Jones Bookshop, who joined us with their pop-up stalls. It was lovely to support these local Christian organisations and celebrate the work they do. Abi Strookman also created some wonderful creative bakes, which were a real highlight!
Another special moment was Angelina’s message, God and the Aesthetic. Drawing on Exodus 31:2–5, she explored how our creativity can be Spirit-filled and used to honour God. She reminded us that creativity is a gift from Him, and that the skills and imagination He gives us can be used to reflect His character and bring Him glory.
The day was filled with wonderful worship, and we were so encouraged by the number of people who came along. The service was a real blessing to many, and it was lovely to see people engaging with the artwork and experiencing St Swithun’s in a new way.
A huge thank you to everyone who made the festival possible! We’re especially grateful for the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery players, which enabled us to bring this event to life.
It was a beautiful opportunity to celebrate the heritage of our church while making space for creativity to flourish. We’re so thankful to everyone who played a part in making it such a memorable day! If you would like to read more about The Heritage Project at St Swithuns Lovechurch click here.
