Week 1 - Greater is He

Joshua 1:9

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

It can be easy to go through life and forget to take a breath, to still ourselves before God and thank Him for the fact that we are still here and He is still good. Even without the current season we are in, our perspective and focus on God and who He is can be shifted to the worries and anxieties that take over our minds.

Joshua, is called by God to head into battle into order to enter Canaan, the promised land, the place that God had prepared for His people.

Victory is assured not because Joshua is a great leader, or because Israel is a great nation, but because God is a great God, and He says to Joshua, I will be with you. God had gone before His people and had already began laying the ground work for them to claim the land, they just had to trust in Him.

Joshua is called to have courage and strength, not in himself, not in the world around him, not in his weapons or even the skills of his best fighting men but in God.

This is the gift of God’s love for us as His children that we can be full of genuine confidence in His promises, seeing our situations through the lens of our loving Father’s eyes, whose presence surrounds us, goes before us and is within us.

We can choose to remember the words God speaks over our lives, choose to treasure the grace poured out for us through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross and hold steadfast to the reality that just like it says in Joshua 1:9, God will be with us wherever we go.

Strength and courage is built in dwelling on who God is and His promises to us.

What scriptures of the bible can you meditate on this week to remind you of God’s faithfulness?

What situations have you been looking at through the eyes of defeat rather than deliverance?
