Easter Sunday
Easter Sunday marks Jesus's resurrection. After Jesus was crucified on the Friday his body was taken down from the cross and buried in a cave tomb. The tomb was guarded by Roman soldiers and an enormous stone was put over the entrance.
On Sunday Mary Magdalene and some of Jesus's disciples visited the tomb. They found the stone had been moved and that Jesus's body had gone. Jesus was seen later that day by Mary and the disciples, and for forty days afterwards by many people. His followers realised that God had raised Jesus from the dead. We Christians call this the resurrection.
Let’s watch an Easter message
Let’s dive into the bible…
Here’s the bible passage from the last book of Mark which describes how Jesus’ friends come to discover that He is risen from the dead.
I wonder if you can find it in your own bibles? Mark 16:4-7 (NIV)
When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, ‘Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?’
But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
‘Don’t be alarmed,’ he said. ‘You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, “He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.”’
Let’s worship
It’s good to praise and worship God on any day of the year but on Easter Sunday we have so much to be thankful for, it’s right that we worship at the tops of our voices with everything we’ve got. So crank up the volume and sing and dance on the day of Christ’s resurrection!
Let’s get crafty
In this video Annabelle shows you how to make a traditional Easter garden. An Easter garden is more than just a pretty centre piece for your Easter lunch, it is a way to help you talk about the Easter story and how Jesus died for us and rose into Heaven. We’d love to see your Easter Gardens. Please email Dani your pictures or tag us in your pics on social media #lovechurchkids.
Here are a couple of other fun Easter activities you might like to try over the holidays.
Let’s watch even more
Here is some more brilliant video content that bring to life the Easter story.
Let’s pray
Let’s take some time now to be still with God before we pray. I find it helps if I bow my head and close my eyes so I don’t get distracted.
Heavenly Father,
We are thankful that the stone has been rolled away and because the grave is empty, we can enter into eternal life with you.
In Jesus' name we pray,
Amen.
